Book now

Three dogs, two people. The Nook is an unusually generous dog friendly cottage for its size, and it is not an accident: the cottage comes with the same four acres of fully enclosed dog exercise field that serves the farmhouse along the track, 500 yards away. Its own garden is enclosed as well, with a picnic bench sitting in it.

It sleeps two properly, with a double sofa bed in the lounge taking another two at a push, and there is one bathroom with a shower. Sky TV and Netflix cover the evening and the enclosed garden covers most of what comes before it. All of it is on the ground floor, so three dogs and two people can move around one another without anybody climbing anything.

Three dogs in a one bedroom cottage sounds like an error until you see how it has been arranged. The garden handles the routine business, the field handles the running, and the cottage itself only has to hold everyone overnight. That is the setup people travelling with a pack learn to look for and almost never find, and it is why somewhere this small carries an allowance most farmhouses will not.

Balmaclellan is a hill village, quiet even by Galloway standards, and the walking begins on the road outside. New Galloway and the Raiders Road forest drive lie west, a long gravel run through the trees beside the Water of Ken. Kirkcudbright, the artists' town on the Dee estuary, is the day out to the south. Three dogs, four acres, and nothing whatsoever to hurry for.

  • Is The Nook - Dumfries And Galloway dog friendly?

The Nook is genuinely built around dogs — it welcomes up to three, which is unusually generous for a one-bedroom cottage. The setup includes an enclosed private garden for day-to-day use and, just 500 yards up the track, a shared four-acre fully enclosed field for proper off-lead running. It's exactly the kind of arrangement that's hard to find but makes a real difference when you're travelling with a pack.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Nook - Dumfries And Galloway year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, and with an enclosed garden and a four-acre exercise field on hand, the setup is well suited to year-round visits. For confirmation of availability at specific times of year, it's worth checking directly with the property.

  • What should I know before visiting The Nook - Dumfries And Galloway with my dog?

The cottage accepts up to three dogs and everything is on the ground floor, so there's no awkward stair-navigating for anyone. Walking starts directly from the road outside, with forest trails near New Galloway and the Raiders Road within easy reach.
