Two dogs are welcome at The Post Box, a cosy dog friendly cottage for two that sits on the corner of a charming farm courtyard at Leighton. It belongs to a working farm in rural Shropshire, with paths leading out from the property and historic Ironbridge close enough to pop over to.
Through the front door, the hall takes the coats and boots, and the lounge, kitchen and dining room opens to the right, full of thoughtful little extras. By the window, the dining table catches the sunrise over breakfast and the sunset over dinner. In the evening there is a pouffe to put your feet up on plus a log effect electric fire, and it is not long before both dogs are toasting themselves beside it. The double bedroom and the shower room are both downstairs, and the bedroom has its own access to the garden.
Outside, the enclosed courtyard garden has pretty borders, a paved patio, garden table and chairs, and a brick built charcoal BBQ. Morning coffee happens out here to the sound of birdsong, with the dogs settled beside the table. A visit round the farm to meet the cows can be arranged directly with the owner, and there is lockable storage for bikes, canoes and fishing tackle.
The dogs have numerous paths to follow from the property, and the protected Shropshire Hills landscape adds rolling hills and river valleys to the walking. Ironbridge has the world famous iron bridge, ten museums and the River Severn to stroll beside. Much Wenlock and Shrewsbury have independent shops and restaurants, and the National Trust houses at Attingham Park and Benthall Hall are well worth an afternoon.
