Black Park Lake Circular

Buckinghamshire

Dog Friendly Rating:8/10A flat lake circuit through pine and heathland woods gives dogs plenty of off-lead space in a large Buckinghamshire country park, with a dog-friendly cafe.

Black Park is a 530-acre Buckinghamshire County Council country park of pine and birch woodland, heathland and a 14-acre lake, once part of the wider Langley Park estate and now one of the busiest dog walking spots on the edge of London. This 3.4km circular walk follows the flat, well-surfaced path all the way around the lake, passing reedbeds and a birdwatching area, with longer trails of five to seven miles heading off into the wider woodland for dogs and owners who want more distance. The going is level throughout with no stiles, on paths that are firm for most of the year, though the woodland tracks away from the lake can turn muddy after rain.

This is a dog friendly park with high off-lead potential across the woodland and around the lake, away from the water itself in areas signed for conservation. There is no grazing livestock here, so the main things to watch for are the busy car park and cafe area at weekends and school holidays, and the lake, which some dogs will want to swim in. The pine and birch canopy gives good shade in summer, and dog waste bins are widely available. The cafe by the main car park has dog-friendly outdoor seating and water bowls, and toilets are on site, making this an easy first or last stop of the day.

  • Can dogs be off lead at Black Park Lake Circular?

The lake circuit itself is 3.4km on flat, firm paths with no stiles, though the woodland tracks can get muddy after rain if you venture further afield.
