Ferry Meadows Country Park, Nene Valley

Ferry Meadows scores a solid 7/10 for dog friendliness, and it's a particularly great choice if your dog loves water. Both Gunwade and Overton lakes have accessible banks for swimming, and there's further water access along the River Nene , so water-loving dogs are well catered for. The flat, easy terrain across the 500-acre park suits dogs of all ages and fitness levels too.

Off-lead potential is moderate , the open meadow grassland and quieter paths offer reasonable freedom, and the rich rabbit scent in the meadows will keep most dogs happily busy. That said, it's worth keeping leads on near the busier lake areas, especially at weekends when the park gets more visitors.

The main circular trail is around 8 km and takes in lakes, riverside paths, open meadow and woodland, so it's a good full day out , and the park has solid facilities including a café, toilets and a visitor centre to keep you comfortable. Parking is available at the Nene Valley Railway and Ferry Meadows car parks, though charges apply. It's also worth knowing the Nene Valley Railway runs along the northern edge of the park, which adds a fun bit of character but may surprise noise-sensitive dogs.
