Hinchingbrooke Country Park Lakeside Walk
Cambridgeshire
Hinchingbrooke Country Park covers 170 acres on the western edge of Huntingdon, a mix of open grassland, established woodland and two lakes created from old gravel workings, laid out as public parkland from the 1970s alongside the historic Hinchingbrooke estate, and a dog can be off lead across most of the wider parkland here. This 3.9km circuit uses the park's well surfaced tracks of tarmac, gravel and boardwalk to link the lakes, meadows and woodland, with gentle undulation rather than any real climbing. The paths are wide and well used, popular with families, joggers and cyclists as well as dog walkers, and wildlife includes waterfowl on the lakes and songbirds in the woodland margins.
This is a dog friendly walk with full off lead access across most of the wider parkland and woodland, giving a dog plenty of room to run. Dogs should be kept under control and often on a lead near the lakes, the children's play area and wherever the park is busy with other visitors. The lakes give a dog a place to swim, and dog waste bins are provided throughout. There is some shade in the woodland for summer visits, and the terrain is flat and easy enough for dogs of any age. The car park off Brampton Road is pay and display, and there is a cafe with outdoor seating in the park.
