Kilchurn Castle and Loch Awe Shore Walk

Stirling

Dog Friendly Rating:7/10A short, easy walk to a stunning ruined castle on the shores of Loch Awe, ideal for dogs who enjoy a gentle stroll with plenty to sniff.

Kilchurn Castle and Loch Awe Shore Walk is a dog friendly route leading to one of Scotland's most photogenic castle ruins, set dramatically on a peninsula reaching into Loch Awe. The short walk follows a clear track from the A85 car park, passing under a railway viaduct before opening out to views of the castle framed by Ben Cruachan and the surrounding hills.

Dogs can be off lead for much of the walk along the lochside, though leads may be needed when crossing agricultural land near the start. The terrain is mostly flat gravel track with some boggy patches near the castle, particularly after wet weather. There are no facilities at the site. Parking is in a small layby off the A85 between two white bollards, near the A819 junction, with space for around 10 cars.
