1 / 8Hotel Endsleigh
Milton Abbot, Devon
Yes. Dogs can stay in 12 dog friendly rooms.
A Grade I listed hotel on the Devon and Cornwall border in the Tamar Valley, where a dog bed, bowls and treats wait in your room.
Two hundred years ago Humphry Repton laid out the gardens at Endsleigh, and Hotel Endsleigh still sits in 100 acres of them, with woodlands, follies and grottos on the border between Devon and Cornwall at the edge of Dartmoor. There is no traffic noise, only the sound of the Tamar river, and The Good Hotel Guide Cesars has given it an Editor's Choice Award for Hotels with Gardens. This dog friendly hotel began as the spot the Duke of Bedford chose for his hunting and fishing lodge.
Dogs are welcomed in 12 of the 21 rooms, and the hotel puts a dog bed, bowls and treats in the room ready for your arrival. The rooms have original hand-painted wallpapers and antique bathroom fittings. In the public areas of the hotel, dogs are kept on a leash. If a second dog is coming too, the hotel's pages don't say whether that works, so check before you book.
Dogs aren't allowed in the main restaurant, assistance dogs aside, though they're welcome on the external terraces and in the public rooms. At 3.30pm each afternoon come just-baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, cakes and finger sandwiches.
The hotel suggests long walks through the grounds, with a corridor of Hunter wellies in every size, and there is fly fishing on the Tamar for sea trout, brown trout and grayling. Further out with your dog, Kit Hill Country Park and Kelly Bray Circular is a Wildpack walk 4.4 miles away, and Dartmoor: Brentor and the Lyd Valley Walk is 4.7 miles away.
Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
