The Horn of Plenty

Tavistock, Devon

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A country house hotel above the Tamar Valley near Tavistock, holding 3 AA Rosettes, with five acres of gardens and ground floor rooms for dogs.

The Horn of Plenty is an independently owned country house hotel at Gulworthy, near Tavistock, on the border of Devon and Cornwall, looking out over the Tamar Valley towards Kit Hill. This dog friendly hotel has five acres of gardens for you and your dog to explore, and most of its rooms have a balcony with views over the valley or the countryside.

Dogs stay in the ground floor rooms of the Coach House, a minute's level walk from the Main House, up to two in each. A water bowl and plenty of treats are waiting, there's a hosepipe if needed and towels on request. The hotel asks that your dog is kept clean and dry and courteous to other guests, and on a lead in public areas.

Well behaved dogs can join you for pre-dinner drinks in the drawing room and at a table in the bar and lounge for breakfast and dinner; let the hotel know ahead if your dog is coming to dinner so a table can be set aside. Dogs are also welcome on the restaurant terraces, weather permitting, but not in the library or the conservatory restaurant. The kitchen holds 3 AA Rosettes and cooks with local produce for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, served with views over the Tamar Valley. Morning coffee and afternoon tea can be taken in the drawing room with your dog beside you.

There are no footpaths from the hotel itself, so the walking begins with a two minute drive down to the Tamar Valley and its 25km of walks. Cotehele and Calstock Circular, which you'll find on Wildpack, is 3.3 miles from the hotel, a good outing for you and the dog. In room treatments can be booked in advance for when you get back.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
