1 / 8Lochardil House
Inverness, Highland
Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms.
A Victorian mansion in woodland just outside Inverness, where dogs stay in the Garden Wing rooms and can eat with you in the Bar.
Lochardil House is a Victorian mansion of 1876 set in woodland 1.5 miles from Inverness city centre, twenty-eight rooms split between the original house and a modern annexe. It became a dog friendly hotel because the surroundings made the decision easy: the River Ness is a stroll away, and the hotel sends guests and dogs along it.
Dogs stay in the guest rooms within the Garden Wing, the modern annexe; the main building rooms are not open to them. The hotel asks for a good clean before you come back in after a walk, and for dogs to be kept off the furniture and beds. The hotel asks that a dog left alone in your room is flagged; a Do Not Disturb sign on the door or a word to reception will do. Spare poo bags are available at reception on request.
The bar area takes well behaved, supervised dogs when it is quiet enough, and that is where you can have an evening meal and a nightcap with one at your feet. Dogs are not permitted in the Restaurant. In the garden conservatory the menus run from a leisurely breakfast through to afternoon tea, and the lounge bar pours fine wines and local ales until the late hours.
Twelve of the twenty-eight rooms sit in the Victorian mansion itself, on a southerly slope that floods the bedroom windows with light and looks over the lush gardens and towering pine trees; the other sixteen are in the Garden Wing. Children are very welcome. For a dog, the River Ness and Ness Islands are the obvious outing, and Fortrose Beach is the dog friendly beach we have nearest, 9.4 miles on.
