1 / 8The Carpenters Arms
Great Wilbraham, Cambridgeshire
Yes. Dogs can stay in 3 dog friendly rooms.
A village pub in Great Wilbraham with four bedrooms, three of them dog friendly, and a dog menu of healthy snacks and cooked sausages.
The Carpenters Arms has been part of Great Wilbraham for more than 250 years and still works as the village local, the bar at the front for a pint, more room round the back for a sit-down meal. Its idea of a dog friendly inn is a whole day: woods and the village common, then a snooze and supper in the bar.
Three of the four bedrooms take dogs, the ones the pub calls its Good rooms, with king sized beds and en suite bathrooms, two with wet rooms and one with a shower; its Best Room, the fourth, does not. Book the Muddy Paws Stay and the dog has use of a comfy bed, a towel and a water bowl throughout, with treats put out in advance if you tell the pub a companion is coming. On dog numbers the hotel doesn't mention a figure, so ask when you book.
Supper with the dog happens in the bar, and the dog eats too: the dog menu runs to healthy snacks and cooked sausages. The glass restaurant at the back brings in plenty of light, there is an open kitchen serving food every day, and the modern British menu is built with local suppliers and makers. Bedrooms are on the top floor, above all of it.
Bath products come from Connock England, a blend made for the pub with notes of blackcurrant, English rose and fig. The team keep tips for dog walks in the area, and the pub also points to the Fleam Dyke, what remains of an Anglo-Saxon earthwork. Wildpack's map has Fulbourn Country Walk 1.8 miles off.
