1 / 8University Arms Hotel
Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.
A city hotel on Regent Street in Cambridge, where dogs stay in Classic rooms, Superior rooms and Suites and are welcome in the mahogany-panelled Library.
The Library at University Arms is dark-panelled and lined with bookshelves, with leather chesterfields, velvet armchairs and an enormous fireplace, and dogs are welcome in it. That sets the tone for a dog friendly hotel on Regent Street in the centre of Cambridge, looking out over Parker's Piece and within walking distance of the historic colleges.
Dogs stay in the Classic rooms, the Superior rooms and the Suites, up to two dogs per room, with a weight limit of 25kg per dog. They must be on a leash or in a carrier in the public areas, and dogs must not be left in the room unattended; housekeeping will not service a room while a dog is inside. The rooms have Edwardian interiors, with leather-padded writing desks, low ottomans and tiered chandeliers in playful colours, and the Suites are named after Cambridge-affiliated authors.
Dogs are not permitted in Parker's Tavern, the hotel's bar and restaurant, or in the gym. At Parker's Tavern every dish is a re-imagining of a British classic sourced from field and fen, with Norfolk fruits de mer, suckling pig with wild mushrooms and a well-stocked wine cellar behind an inventive cocktail list. Afternoon tea there takes its cue from the city's literary legacy, with sandwiches, warm scones and pastries.
The Book Butler is the service to use: sit down over tea or coffee, talk about what you like reading, and a selection hand-picked from the Heywood Hill library is delivered to your room. That enormous Library fireplace is a good place to sit with the dog afterwards, and when you both want air, Grantchester Meadows and the River Cam is 0.8 miles away on Wildpack's map.
