Milton Country Park Lakes Circuit
Cambridgeshire
Milton Country Park covers 95 acres on the northern edge of Cambridge, its two lakes formed from gravel extraction before the site was landscaped as parkland in the 1990s, and a dog is welcome off the lead and in the water across much of the site. This 2.9km circuit follows well surfaced paths of tarmac, compacted gravel and boardwalk around both lakes and through the surrounding woodland and meadow, flat throughout and easy underfoot, though sections can turn muddy in winter. The park is a short drive from central Cambridge and gets busy at weekends and during school holidays, but the paths are wide enough to give everyone room.
This is a dog friendly walk with full off lead access across much of the park's woodland and meadow, and dogs are welcome to swim in the lakes. Signposted areas ask for dogs to be kept on a lead close to the lake edges where waterfowl gather, near the play area and cafe, and wherever the park is busy, so check the signage as you go. There is no livestock here, and the woodland gives good shade for a dog in summer. The dog friendly cafe has outdoor seating, and dog waste bins and water points are provided around the park. Parking is pay and display.
