A family run inn of six rooms on the banks of the River Tay, three of them for dogs, with the bar and decking open to them too.
The Inn on The Tay is a family run inn of six bedrooms on the banks of the River Tay, in the heart of Highland Perthshire, where the water passes the Grandtully rapids. This dog friendly inn has resident hounds of its own, enthusiastic about visiting dogs, and the walking begins within reach of the inn, plenty of it ripe for sniffing and exploring.
Three of the six rooms take dogs, Tilt, Braan and Lyon, and no more than two dogs stay in any of them. Bedding you bring yourself. The house rules are addressed to the dog, which tells you something: never be in the room unaccompanied by an adult, no grooming in the room, no noise, and be out of the way so housekeeping can get in.
Well socialised dogs are welcome in the dog friendly dining areas, on leads at all times, and the Cosy Bar and the River View Decking both take them, with the full menu served in each. Tell a staff member when you arrive and they will arrange a table in the bar so your dog can come to breakfast for a sneaky sausage. The kitchen smokes its own meats and fish and leans on inn favourites, beer battered fish and chips, burgers and the pies.
Four of the rooms give you the rapids from your own armchair, and the Coorie dining area has floor to ceiling glass, wood panelling and a log burner, and the Riverside Terrace has an elevated view of the Mighty Tay. Take the dog to The Birks of Aberfeldy and the Falls of Moness, 4.6 miles off, one of the walks on our map.
