1 / 16Buckle House
Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries and Galloway
A former shoe shop turned house for six in Gatehouse of Fleet, three bedrooms, a large enclosed garden with a summerhouse and a gate to the woods, and two dogs welcome.
Buckle House was once the town's shoe shop, which is where the name comes from, and it is now a dog friendly terraced house for six in the middle of Gatehouse of Fleet, in Dumfries and Galloway. It takes two dogs, and it has a better arrangement for them than most town houses manage.
The garden is large, lawned and completely enclosed, and holds a patio, a summerhouse, seating and a barbecue, and there are three steps within it. At the bottom is a gate that opens onto Garries Park, and from there the paths lead straight into Cally Woods. So the morning walk is out of the back gate, through the park and into the trees, with two dogs leading, and back the same way to a garden where they can be let off the lead.
Indoors there are two sitting rooms: a living room at the front with comfortable sofas, and a snug up two steps with a gas fire. The kitchen and dining room at the back looks over the garden, which means the dogs can be watched from the table. Upstairs is a super kingsize, a kingsize and a room with bunk beds, with a shower room, and the main bathroom is downstairs. A stair gate is provided and a welcome pack with something for the dogs.
Gatehouse is a small, lively town, with the Mill on the Fleet and Cardoness Castle close by. The beaches at Mossyard and Carrick are a short drive down the coast, and Galloway Forest Park, Europe's first Dark Sky Park, has trails without end for dogs and bikes. Kirkcudbright, the artists' town, is a short drive east.

Book with cottages.comFrequently Asked Questions
Is Buckle House dog friendly?
Yes, Buckle House welcomes up to two dogs. It's a genuinely dog-considerate place too — there's a large, fully enclosed lawned garden where dogs can be let off the lead, plus a gate at the bottom that opens directly onto Garries Park and the paths into Cally Woods.
Are dogs allowed at Buckle House year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given that it's a self-catering house rather than a hotel, year-round dog-friendly access is typical for this kind of letting.
What should I know before visiting Buckle House with my dog?
The house takes a maximum of two dogs, so it's not suitable for larger groups of pets. Inside, a stair gate is provided, and the kitchen and dining room looks out over the garden so you can keep an eye on the dogs from the table. Do note there are a couple of steps to navigate — two up to the snug and three within the garden itself.
