1 / 16Hare Cottage - Grange
Grange over Sands, Cumbria
A two bedroom cottage for four a few hundred yards up from the seafront at Grange over Sands, with a conservatory, an enclosed garden and bay views from both beds, two dogs welcome.
Hare Cottage stands a few hundred yards up from the seafront at Grange over Sands, which is the whole argument for it: park the car on arrival and forget about it. Four sleep here, two dogs are allowed, and the garden behind is enclosed with a conservatory looking straight out over it. Somewhere dog friendly you can walk out of beats one you have to drive out of.
The ground floor opens into a single room holding the kitchen, the dining table and a sofa set round a coal effect fire, with the conservatory off it taking the garden and most of the light. A WC on that floor saves the stairs. Above, a king and a twin both look out over the bay and share the bathroom between them. Both dogs will pick the conservatory, because that is where the warmth collects.
The conservatory doors stand open onto the gravel and both dogs are lying half out of them. Somebody has walked down to the front and come back with fish for later, having stopped twice on the way. The barbecue is being argued about on the patio. Beyond the roofs the tide is doing what it does across the bay, and nobody is going near the car until Thursday.
The seafront is a few minutes on foot with the shore path running along the bay from it. Inland the white limestone scar of Whitbarrow gives the whole southern Lake District from its top and takes dogs on the lead. Round the water Leighton Moss keeps reedbeds and hides for anyone who prefers birds to hills. Windermere and its boats are half an hour north when a lake day is called for.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Hare Cottage - Grange dog friendly?
Yes, Hare Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has an enclosed garden to the rear and a conservatory that opens directly onto it, which tends to become the dogs' favourite spot in the house — warm, light, and with easy access outside.
Are dogs allowed at Hare Cottage - Grange year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the property when booking to confirm availability for your dates.
What should I know before visiting Hare Cottage - Grange with my dog?
The cottage's biggest practical advantage is that you can walk straight out to the seafront and the shore path along the bay without needing the car. Whitbarrow, the limestone hill inland offering wide views across the southern Lake District, is accessible from the area but does ask that dogs are kept on the lead. Windermere is about half an hour north if you fancy a lake day, and Leighton Moss nature reserve is also nearby for a change of scene.
