Trails leave the front door and run straight into the trees. Seven Springs is a three bedroom cottage deep in the woodland of Cannock Chase near Brereton, renovated in 2025, dog friendly throughout, and two dogs come with a pack of doggy extras laid on. It sleeps six, and every bedroom has its own shower room.

The front door is up six steps. Inside, the ground floor opens into a single kitchen, living and dining space with a wood burner and fuel to start it, and bi-fold doors that fold back onto the decking and the trees. Out the back, the garden is fenced in, with a patio, a barbecue and seating, so two dogs can be let out while the fire gets going. The wood-fired hot tub for six stands outside, three steps up.

This is a place for people who spend the day outdoors. Mountain bikers come for the trails, walkers for the woods, and the evening follows the same shape either way: boots off in the utility room, dogs dried and flat out by the burner, then the tub with the canopy dark overhead and bats working the edge of the trees. Upstairs, two of the bedrooms can be set up as doubles or twins.

Cannock Chase covers a great deal of heath and forest, and the walking starts at the garden. The Sherbrook Valley runs through it, the Iron Age earthworks at Castle Ring sit on high ground at its southern end, and fallow deer graze the clearings, so a dog with a chasing instinct is best kept close. Birches Valley Forest Centre and the Shugborough estate are both within a short drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Seven Springs dog friendly?

Yes, Seven Springs is dog friendly throughout, and up to two dogs are welcome. The cottage even lays on a pack of doggy extras for your visit, and the back garden is fully fenced so your dogs can roam freely outside while you get settled in.

  • Are dogs allowed at Seven Springs year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, and with a wood burner, utility room for drying off muddy dogs, and an enclosed garden, Seven Springs is set up to work just as well in the depths of winter as it is in summer.

  • What should I know before visiting Seven Springs with my dog?

The front door is reached via six steps, so it's worth bearing that in mind if your dog struggles with stairs. Cannock Chase itself is wonderful walking country, but fallow deer graze the clearings, so dogs with a strong chasing instinct are best kept on the lead out on the trails.
