Cannock Chase Glacial Boulder Trail

Staffordshire

Dog Friendly Rating: 7/10 A big Cannock Chase circular past the ice age Glacial Boulder and two visitor centres, perfect for dogs who love open forest rambles.

Set in the heart of Cannock Chase National Landscape, this 12.8 km circular loops across heathland and through pine forest to the landmark Glacial Boulder, with the Cannock Chase and Birches Valley visitor centres on route. The area is dog friendly and deeply loved by local walkers for its mix of wide views, woodland cover and year round accessibility.

Expect mostly good paths with a few steady climbs, so it suits dogs comfortable with a half day out. Keep your dog close over the open heath where fallow deer and ground nesting birds are sensitive to disturbance, and on a lead near the visitor centres and any grazing livestock. Free parking is at Chase Road Corner, with toilets and cafes at both visitor centres, and water bowls often out at the Birches Valley stop.
