Arrowe Country Park
Merseyside
Arrowe Country Park covers around 250 acres of former estate parkland in the middle of the Wirral peninsula, laid out with mature woodland, open playing fields and a lake that was once part of the grounds of Arrowe Hall. There's no livestock on site, so a dog can range across the parkland and playing fields with few restrictions. The 4.5km circuit follows the woodland path beside Arrowe Brook, where the stream drops over a small waterfall, before opening out around the fishing lake and returning through parkland and playing fields. The going is easy and largely flat throughout on established paths, with just a couple of short stretches alongside estate roads where traffic is light.
This is a dog friendly park where the woodland gives a dog with reasonable recall a good amount of freedom off the lead, away from the busier playing fields near the car parks. There is no livestock on the route. Arrowe Brook gives a shallow paddling spot in the woods, and the lake, though good for watching waterfowl, is better kept out of than swum in. Keep dogs on a lead on the short roadside sections where estate traffic passes. There is a cafe within the park for a break, and parking is available close to the main entrances off Arrowe Park Road.
