Cenarth Falls Riverside Circular
Ceredigion
Cenarth sits on the River Teifi where it forms the boundary between Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire, and the falls here are one of the best known sights of the Teifi valley: a series of rocky ledges beside an old mill and a bridge with round holes between its arches to let floodwater through. A dog stays on the lead here, since the falls and weir run fast even in normal conditions and the riverside boardwalk gets busy with visitors. In season salmon can be seen leaping the falls. Ceredigion County Council's promoted Cenarth Circular starts from the car park by the falls on the north bank and follows a boardwalk and grass path upstream past the weir and along the wooded bank below Allt y Graig. After about a kilometre it turns up through the trees near Alltgudd Fach and returns to the village along a lane. The whole loop is 1.9km with about 45 metres of gentle climbing, and the first 700 metres are suitable for wheelchairs.
This is a short, dog friendly stroll rather than a big day out, ideal for older dogs or a leg stretch on the way to the coast. The riverside boardwalk is busy with visitors and the falls and weir are dangerous in high water, so keep your dog on a lead by the river, and again on the return lane, which is a road. The woods give shade. Cenarth has shops, cafes, pubs and toilets, and the car park is pay and display.

All dog friendly stays in CeredigionFrequently Asked Questions
Is Cenarth Falls Riverside Circular dog friendly?
Cenarth Falls Riverside Circular is a solid choice for a short dog-friendly outing, earning a 7 out of 10 on our rating. The 1.9km loop is gentle and easy-going, making it a great leg stretch for older dogs or a warm-up on the way to the Ceredigion coast. Cenarth village itself has shops, cafes, pubs and toilets right by the car park, so you and your dog are well catered for.
Can dogs be off lead at Cenarth Falls Riverside Circular?
Dogs should be kept on a lead throughout this walk. The falls and weir run fast even in normal conditions and are genuinely dangerous in high water, while the riverside boardwalk gets busy with visitors. The return section follows a lane, so leads are needed there too.
What should I know before visiting Cenarth Falls Riverside Circular with my dog?
The walk starts from the pay and display car park on the north bank beside the falls, and the first 700 metres of boardwalk and grass path are suitable for wheelchairs. Keep your dog on the lead the whole way round — the weir and falls are the main hazard, but the return lane is also a road. It's a short, pleasant stroll rather than a big day out, and in season you may catch salmon leaping the falls, which is well worth the visit on its own.
