Sherrardspark Wood Circular Walk
Hertfordshire
Sherrardspark Wood is a Site of Special Scientific Interest cloaking the northern edge of Welwyn Garden City, 188 acres of ancient oak and hornbeam pitted with mossy bridleways and bluebell glades. This circular loop follows the main wardens' routes through the quieter southern wood, linking Reddings, Pentley Park and Woodland Rise entrances, and is one of the most dog friendly walks you can do within easy reach of London.
Dogs can wander off lead across most of the wood, though sensible owners keep them in sight given the SSSI status and the occasional horse or cyclist passing through. Paths are soft underfoot and can get genuinely muddy in winter, so boots are a good call. Parking is at the small Sherrardspark Woods car park just past the water treatment works on Reddings, with space for around ten cars.
