1 / 8Mill End Hotel
Chagford, Devon
Yes. Dogs can stay in 11 dog friendly rooms.
A former mill on the River Teign at Chagford, now a country house hotel with a fenced dog paddock, a boot room and walks from the door.
Mill End Hotel began life as a 15th century mill on the banks of the River Teign, and today it is a country house hotel at Chagford on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, with riverside gardens and log fires. It is a dog friendly hotel set up for days on the moor: a side entrance takes you and your dog into a boot room with a large sink, plenty of dog towels and treats for pups and people alike.
Of the 21 bedrooms, eleven take dogs. The ground floor twins Swincombe and Erme are popular choices with guests bringing dogs, with easy access to the outdoor spaces. Every dog gets a treat box and a personalised Mill End collar tag, with spare leads, water bowls, poo bags and towels, detailed maps of Dartmoor walks with dogs, and a dog sitter if you arrange one in advance. In the lounges, dogs stay on a lead and on the floor rather than on the furniture.
The restaurant is kept pet free, so dogs don't eat there; instead they can join you for dinner at one of two tables in the bar, first come, first served, or rest in your room during meal times. The restaurant holds two AA rosettes and serves breakfast through to dinner, with Devon cream teas all day.
Walks leave straight from the doorstep, and a large, secure paddock with a one metre fence is gated so your dog can run off the lead first thing or before bed. You can wander down to the bridge for a riverbank walk to Fingle Bridge, and Teign Gorge and Castle Drogo Circular, which Wildpack lists, is 1 mile from the hotel. Back at Mill End, a wood-fired sauna sits in the gardens steps from the river.
Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
