Somebody went along the post and rail boundary and fixed metal mesh up the bottom 75cm of it, the gate to the lane included. The Threshing Barn is an 18th century barn complex on a quiet lane at Gilberdyke, a dog friendly stay sleeping eight with two dogs, and that mesh is the difference between a garden a dog is watched in and one a dog is let into.

The main barn is one tall open space with a galleried landing looking down into it: sofas round a log burner, a table for eight, a kitchen island to lean on while somebody else cooks. A snug with a games console opens off it. Three bedrooms sit upstairs, one of them en suite, and the fourth is over in the Courtyard Barn a few metres across the garden, self contained with its own lounge, so an early waking dog is somebody else's morning.

The patio doors have stood open since lunch and both dogs are working a circuit between the lawn and the log burner. Somebody went across to the Courtyard Barn an hour ago and has not come back. Garden games lie abandoned mid round on the grass. The table is being laid for eight and nobody has settled whose turn it is to cook.

Gilberdyke sits in the flat land between the Ouse and the Humber, where the estuary widens and the sky takes over. Riverbank paths run for miles on the level from there. North Cave Wetlands turns old quarries into lagoons and hides, and William's Den has an adventure barn for children who have had their fill of birds. Dogs get the tracks, the field edges and miles of riverbank.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Threshing Barn dog friendly?

Yes, The Threshing Barn welcomes up to two dogs. The enclosed garden has been fitted with metal mesh along the bottom 75cm of the post and rail boundary fencing, gate included, so your dogs can roam it freely rather than needing constant supervision.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Threshing Barn year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but we'd recommend confirming directly with the owner if you're planning a visit at a particular time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting The Threshing Barn with my dog?

The property accommodates a maximum of two dogs, and the garden is securely enclosed with mesh-reinforced fencing, making it genuinely off-lead friendly. The surrounding area offers plenty of good walking too — riverbank paths run for miles on the level from Gilberdyke, and North Cave Wetlands is nearby for a change of scenery.
