Greshornish House

Edinbane, Highland

Yes. Dogs can stay overnight.

A ten bedroom house at the end of a single track road on Skye, with bowls, towels and biscuits for dogs and a breakfast area they can join.

The single track road out onto Skye's Waternish peninsula ends at Greshornish House, a family run hotel of ten bedrooms that has stood above Loch Greshornish since the 1740s. The shoreline is fifty metres from the front door, with woodland folding around the grounds. That is most of the appeal of this dog friendly hotel: walks begin at the gate, following the shoreline around Greshornish Point or leading further along the coast.

Rooms are prepared for a dog's arrival with bowls, a bed, towels and biscuits. Each one is different, shaped by the age of the building and where they sit within it; some look out over Loch Greshornish, others across the garden or into the surrounding trees. All are en suite, with tea and coffee ready for your return. The house does not say how many dogs may come, or which of the rooms are theirs, so settle both when you book.

The house provides a breakfast area where your dog can join you. The kitchen is unhurried and local: seafood and shellfish from nearby waters, Highland meat, produce chosen for quality rather than complexity, and lobster caught in Loch Greshornish itself when the boats bring it in. Afternoon tea, booked 48 hours ahead, brings homemade sandwiches, scones and cakes.

Inside there are open fires, wood panelled rooms, shelves of books and roll top baths in the Master Rooms. The house stands in ten acres of gardens and woodland, with eagles, otters and resident golden pheasants often spotted nearby. A path from the back gate loops around Greshornish Point, and a walk reaches Dubaig bay, where you and the dog will mostly have the place to yourselves.
